When Valencia Grace first started writing songs around the age of 15, she had no intention of becoming an artist. By the age of 14 she had experienced life in varying locations – Los Angeles, Dallas Texas, Kuala Lumpur Malaysia, Poole Dorset, without anyone to share her experiences and the personal struggles she was going through, she turned to song writing and found comfort in her own words and compositions. She might have stumbled naturally into this creative pursuit, but she’s already shaping up to be a brilliant, much-needed addition to the UK’s music scene.
As a child, Valencia discovered her love of entertaining people while doing musical theatre and, in her teens, found sanctuary in Motown and soul. It was the strong, powerful voices – especially those of women – in those genres that had an important impact on her. Although her songs had no ulterior motive behind them other than as outlets of expression, Valencia Grace had always dreamed of being a performer of some kind. She got the chance to make that a reality in 2022, gaining an impressive audience on social media releasing videos of her singing original songs and covers whilst at home during the first lockdown. This unintentionally led to a record deal and subsequent debut single, ‘It Was You’.
Her upcoming EP presents a young artist beginning to bloom and a promising new storyteller making a space for herself in the world.
