Margo Price has something to say—but nothing to prove. Across four bold albums, she’s cemented herself as a generational voice in American music, never shying away from raw honesty, genre boundaries, or the issues that move her. Whether tackling the gender wage gap, substance abuse, or the plight of American farmers (she joined Farm Aid’s board in 2021), Price brings sharp lyricism and fearless storytelling to everything she does.

On her fourth LP, Strays, she’s at her most liberated—musically and personally. Written during a psychedelic songwriting retreat with husband and longtime collaborator Jeremy Ivey, and recorded with producer Jonathan Wilson (Angel Olsen, Father John Misty), Strays is a lush, rock-forward record that dives deep into self-worth, addiction, abortion rights, and desire. From the gritty opener “Been to the Mountain” to the Sharon Van Etten-assisted “Radio,” Price confronts everything from industry expectations to personal demons with defiant vulnerability.

Sober and sharper than ever, Price uses Strays to explore identity and transformation. Songs like “Hell in the Heartland” and “Change of Heart” chronicle her healing, while “Lydia”—a haunting, stream-of-consciousness ballad—stands as a prescient reflection on choice and motherhood. She’s equally unafraid to embrace joy and sensuality, as on the Mike Campbell collaboration “Light Me Up,” where she flips the script on sexual agency.

From her breakout debut Midwest Farmer’s Daughter to her genre-defying evolution, Price has remained uncompromising in her vision. Along the way, she’s earned Grammy nominations, widespread critical acclaim, and high-profile appearances—but the drive burns brighter than ever. “I still haven’t been able to fully realize all my dreams yet,” she says. “And that eats me up.”

Unapologetically honest and relentlessly creative, Strays is Price’s most adventurous album yet—and her most free.
