Since forming nearly a decade ago, SE SO NEON has become one of Korea’s most loved and acclaimed alternative bands, earning awards, critical praise, and a steadily growing global fanbase. Led by singer, songwriter, and multidisciplinary artist Soyoon Hwang (So!YoON!), the group has built a reputation for expanding the definition of “rock,” blending lo-fi textures, blues, psychedelic rock, new wave, and synth pop into a sound that feels both timeless and immediate. Pitchfork has called them “a versatile name in the Korean indie scene.”
NOW, their debut full-length album, marks a new chapter. After releasing her second solo album Episode1: Love in 2023, Soyoon faced doubts about the band’s next move. Feeling creatively blocked, she left Korea for New York City, spending long days in the studio and rediscovering hope. “That’s why the album title is NOW,” she says. “I realized I needed to stop worrying about the future.”
