There’s an art to looking back. For Caskets, it could have been easy to push forward, riding the success of debut Lost Souls, which opened tours across the U.S. and Europe and secured spots at Download and Slam Dunk. But after years on the road, reflection became unavoidable. Two years in shared tour buses and hotel rooms turned those reflections into a shared experience.
If Lost Souls stemmed from vocalist Matt Flood’s personal experiences, follow-up Reflections offers a broader view of the band, shaped by challenges that strengthened their bond. “Difficult stuff happening made our relationship stronger,” Matt notes.
Each member—Matt, guitarists Benji Wilson and Craig Robinson, bassist Chris Mcintosh, and drummer James Lazenby—contributed. “When your drummer brings full demos with lyrics, that’s a strong foundation,” Matt says.
Songs evolved from experimental ideas into the band’s distinctive sound. “We built a platform to rip apart and put back together,” Matt says.
Produced by Dan Weller, each track reflects a specific moment in a band member’s life. “I could never sit with a counsellor,” Matt admits. “It’s easier to write it down.”
Covering heartbreak, self-worth, and suicide survival, Reflections unites the band musically and emotionally. “It’s always about the music,” Matt concludes.
