Born in East London to Angolan and Congolese parents, Jay Prince began his musical journey in church, mastering piano, bass, and guitar. Growing up in Newham, he was inspired by local rap culture and began making beats on Fruity Loops, merging production with poetic lyricism. His breakout mixtape Before Our Time (2015) was followed by Late Summers (2017), featuring Shakka, Amine, and Mahalia. Cherish (2018) included the hit “In The Morning,” which has over 20 million streams. In 2019, Jay released Wonder, writing, producing, and performing every track. A four-year move to LA saw collaborations with Tyler, The Creator and GoldLink, plus praise from Billboard and Pitchfork. His SOL trilogy explored love, nature, and hope, leading to global tours and collabs with artists like SiR and Jay Electronica. On May 16, 2025, Jay releases his long-awaited debut album Shine and single “US” featuring Yussef Dayes and Chief Adjuah. The 14-track project explores themes of faith, identity, love, and resilience, blending rap, soul, jazz, and funk. With features from Estelle, Oddisee, and more, Shine reflects Jay’s growth and truth. “Through hardships the spark never died,” says Jay. “Thankfully, through patience and perseverance, we came out on the other side.”
