Lady Gaga hit the UK with her first headline shows in Manchester and London in 2009.
Lady Gaga wrote her first song aged 13 and a decade later, her compositions were worldwide chart-toppers making her a singer and songwriter in demand. Her debut single, Just Dance, simultaneously became the first new number one of 2009 in the UK and US, was nominated for a Grammy, and is this country’s biggest selling single of the year so far with more than 600,000 copies sold. Its successor Poker Face was hot on its heels: climbing to the top of the UK single charts on 22 March. It reached the summit of the Billboard Hot 100, making Lady Gaga the first artist in nearly ten years to reach the top of the US chart with their first two track entries. Just Dance and Poker Face both featured on Lady Gaga's debut album The Fame, which entered the UK top three on its release in January and climbed to the top spot; it has now been certified Platinum.
These shows were then followed up with announcement of a major UK arena tour for February-March 2010. The Monster Ball were her first UK shows of 2010, and the first chance for fans to hear songs from her revamped album, The Fame Monster.
